A section of Kibera residents have reacted differently to the prosecution of Migori governor Okoth Obado over Sharon Otieno’s murder.
Majority residents argue that Obado should face the law if there is enough evidence linking him to crime.
“He (Obado) deserves what he is going through if indeed he committed the crime” Ruth Atieno, a vegatable vendor at Ngumo market said.
She said that the law is equal and should be applied to everyone who commits crime.
“Governor Obado should serve as an example to people who commit evil in the dark not knowing that they will be exposed,” Janet Mate a resident at Ngumo market said.
She claimed that the government has enough evidence linking the governor to the murder.
“I don’t think the DPP would have ordered for Obado’s arrest if he did not have evidence incriminating him,” Pius Ombima, a bodaboda operator in Kibera said.
Ombima said that Obado should face the law if he committed murder crime.
However, a section of residents claim that Obado is being mistreated.
“Governor Obado should be accorded his respect even if he is facing charges in court,” Jared Okoth said.
Okoth said that the governor has been humiliated and embarrassed.
“There is no point of humiliating him because he deserves the right to innocence until proven guilty,” Martin Osuna said.
On Monday, Governor Obado pleaded not guilty to killing Sharon Otieno.
The Migori governor is remanded at the Industrial Area Remand prison pending his bail ruling on Thursday.
Obado’s Personal Assistant (PA) Michael Oyamo has also been charged with killing Sharon Otieno.
