Mwingi Central MP Gideon Mulyungi's younger brother has been charged with stealing Sh18,000 worth CDF cheques.
Joseph Mwangangi who on Monday appeared before a Mwingi court denied the charges and was released on Sh20,000 bond.
Mwangangi is accused of stealing three cheques amounting to Sh18,000.
He denied the claims that he stole the cheques from the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) bursary after the prosecution amended the charges against him.
Appearing before Mwingi Senior Principal Magistrate Kibet Sambu, the accused maintained that he is innocent.
His lawyer Christopher Nzili told the court that his client is not guilty of any wrongdoing.
Mwangangi had been remanded at Waita GK prison, pending hearing of the case after he appeared in the same court last Wednesday.
The court heard that the accused allegedly committed the offense on diverse dates between January 11 and 27.
Mwangangi is said to have stolen the cheques from Equity Bank.
On his part, the lawmaker said he is pushing for the prosecution of his blood brother as a way of showing accountability and readiness to deal with criminals in his constituency.
Mulyungi has, however, faced hostility from his family members for what they term as using his brother for his selfish gains.
The siblings have faulted the lawmaker for being so inhuman to the point of letting his brother suffer in the corridors of justice.
