For months now, Murkomen has questioned the ability of the DCI to investigate the construction of the Kimwarer and Arror dams, in which Sh21 billion is said to have been lost through dubious payments.

Murkomen, who doubles as Senate Majority Leader on Wednesday questioned investigations into the Thwake dam project in Makueni County, noting that an advanced payment of Sh7 billion had been made without any tangible work on the ground.

"This is the site of Thwake Dam in Makueni County where 7.8B advance payment was made 3 years ago. How far is the @DCI_Kenya with investigations? We will not allow discrimination as long as we are still in a country called Kenya," said Murkomen.

"Predictably Gov Mutua is defending Thwake Dam (1 Project) which was paid 7.8B advance money 3 yrs before the works commenced while bastardizing Arror&Kimwarer Dams (2 Projects) whose advance amount is 7B. What’s the difference? TRIBALISM. We know the truth and the truth set us free," he added.

However, Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo dismissed Murkomen's position, arguing that no such payments have been made by Treasury towards the construction of the Thwake Dam which is expected to serve the lower Eastern region.

"For the avoidance of doubt, I have BQs, project proposal, EISA report and schedule of payments to majority PAPs and a letter showing why the balance is yet to be paid. Tell me where to drop the dossier," he argued.

Mr Murkomen and a section of MPs allied to DP William Ruto have questioned DCI Kinoti's approach in the fight against corruption, often castigating him of allegedly taking instructions from people opposed to Ruto's 2022 candidature.
