Residents of Sinendet village in Njoro, Nakuru, are calling on the county government to fix roads in the area after an initiate died before being taken to hospital due to poor roads.
The 17-year-old underwent circumcision on Friday and fell sick on Saturday.
On Sunday, his health deteriorated but he could not be taken to hospital as there was a heavy downpour which left roads impassable.
“It had rained and when he fell sick on Sunday, the roads were impassable. They waited for the rain to stop and try to maneuver through but he died,” a family source said.
The initiate collapsed on Monday and died. The caregiver of the teenage boy said he was unable to take the boy to the hospital because ‘no car can access the area’ and he was waiting to have the boy walk after the rains.
Efforts to reach Nakuru CeCM for Roads were futile.
The residents, however, called on Governor Lee Kinyanjui to ensure he fixes roads in the sleepy village.
“We hear he launched something called boresha barabara, why are our roads like this?” Esther Wangari said.
