"Our Kisii Soapstone is a gem. I carried some with me on my Israel trip and people here are excited with them. This is a unique resource that our county is blessed to possess. We are lobbying to get interested investors who can come with money and add new ideas for value addition," said Ongwae in his tweet.

The soapstone was named after the people of Tabaka Hills found in the Western part of Kenya. The soapstone is a metamorphic rock which is so soft and easy to work with.

Initially, the residents used the soapstone to produce baskets and pots which were used to carry fats. However, the production aim evolved from local to international where they are exported to other countries to be used as decors in houses and offices.
