Corruption allegations and the ‘handshake’ are the biggest hurdles the self-proclaimed hustler should beat in order to outshine his competitors and ascend to the presidency.

However, despite the fact that Ruto enjoys a strong support base in his Rift Valley home region, he is still facing serious political opponents who do not believe in his presidential dreams.

A section of leaders from this region has criticized the second man in command and maintained that he is not fit to lead the nation.

Alfred Keter

The firebrand Nandi Hills Member of Parliament has been branded a rebel within the Jubilee party by Ruto's allies due to his criticism on issues concerning the DP. Recently, Keter branded DP Ruto the ‘high priest of corruption.’

Joshua Kutuny

Kutuny, the Member of Parliament for Cherangany was Ruto's confidant up to shortly after 2017 general elections when the two seemingly fell out. The outspoken MP linked Ruto to the 2017 maize scandal and has asked the man from Sugoi and his allies to carry their own crosses in the ongoing investigations in relation to Arror and Kimwarer dams scandals.
