Despite the two being jointly elected in 2017, divisions have escalated among their allies, with some clashing in public over succession politics.

State House spokesperson Kanze Dena however, on Tuesday said the alleged rift between the two is imagined, adding that only some people have been yearning for their fallout.

“Those are rumours, propaganda and division being sown by those who wanted such a split between the two,” said Dena as quoted by the Standard.

“They are speaking from the same page that projects and development will be done. That is their direction as of now, in order to work for Kenyans… we’ve seen them work together and not only just at one function,” she added.

On Sunday, a furious President Uhuru Kenyatta lectured MPs from Mt Kenya region who have been backing Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 bid.

Speaking in his native Kikuyu, Uhuru threatened to descend on the MPs, accusing them of engaging in early campaigns against his wishes.

While Uhuru had promised to back Ruto's bid in 2022, he has since gone silent and instead embraced a new fond relationship with Raila Odinga.
