Political analyst and governance expert Brian Mutie now says that Kenyans are to blame for the weak opposition in the country as is currently being witnessed.
This follows the exit of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) chief Raila Odinga who on March 9 last year reached a truce with President Uhuru Kenyatta of the ruling Jubilee Party.
Speaking on Radio Maisha's Bunge La Maisha show Tuesday morning, Mutie observed that lack of appreciation by Kenyans was one of the things that led to Raila abandoning them.
He noted that despite always revealing graft scandals in government and other bad deeds, Kenyans still bashed and ignored the former Prime Minister, pushing him away.
"He used to make revelations about scandals but no one listened to him while others attacked him. It seems he got tired and decided to watch from a distance," he said.
He said that Raila's current silence next to Uhuru can also be attributed to his numerous losses in the presidential race, having lost in all his four bids, the last one being in 2017.
"Kenyans proved to be unthankful as he attempted to help and better their lives. To worsen it, they repeatedly denied him the presidential vote, further putting him off," he added.
The commentator added that Rails is justified to remain silent as Kenya plunges deeper into graft, debts and poverty as Kenyans have failed to acknowledge his attempts to help.
Raila has since taken over as the African Union Infrastructure Development, a slot he was picked to head last year.
