Led by the area MCA Anselm Mwadime, the peaceful protesters said efforts to fight insecurity have allegedly been curtailed by the dubious display of arrogance, laxity and endless investigations by the officers in charge.

They said they have consistently reported cases of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) that have been experienced for the last one year but security organs in the County have done little to bring the culprits to book.

“We residents of Mghange and Mwanda locations have infamously and consistently reported cases of gender based violence that has been experienced for the last one year but security organs in the County have done little to bring the culprits to book," said a petitioner.

The angry locals who protested to the Taita Taveta County Assembly also cited rampant illicit brews and collusion between administration police that have totally caused detrimental development to the region and called for redeployment of the officers.

It was also revealed that, alleged illegal road blocks staged from Mghange/Nyika have been converted to cash collection points scaling up harassment on boda boda riders which is unacceptable and demeans the police officers role to the society.

The irate residents handed over a petition to the County Assembly Speaker, Maganga Meshack Maghanga, who said the police and administration in Mwanda and Mghange locations will be given a notice which when not acted upon, will make the petitioners to exercise their sovereignty directly.

The Speaker affirmed the County Assembly's efforts to ensure residents of Taita Taveta benefit from their constitutional rights.
