The Nandi community lost the war, as many lives of the warriors, women and children were brutally taken by the use of heavy machinery and veteran soldiers of the British government.

Nevertheless, the community lost the fertile highlands and were pushed into living in low productive areas.

However, Nandi was the only community who resisted the British rule for the longest time in the country.

They frustrated the white man to a point he was almost giving up.

Here are four reasons as to why the Nandis were able to resist the British government for a very long time;

Guerilla warfare.

The Nandi warriors knew the terrains along the Nandi Hills very well as compared to the British soldiers. The forests which existed in the Nandi land was of great importance as the warriors would attack the white men at their stations and farms and later hide in the forest.

Surplus production of food

The Nandi people were great farmers. They had numerous cattle which would provide meat and milk for the warriors. The Nandi highlands, fertile soils and the heavy rainfall around their region provided them with heavy harvests for consumption and trading.

Presence of the office of the Orkoiyot

The Orkoiyot was a sign of unity. He would organize wars and bless the warriors. His ability to foresee the future was very important as he was able to warn his people against any danger.

The presence of warriors

The age set system would provide the tribe warriors. These warriors were highly trained in the use of spears and arrows.
