The event, which was held at a Garissa hotel, brought together stakeholders from the county health department, Ministry of Health, members of non-governmental organisations and local leaders.

Speaking during the launching event, Health CEC Mrs Isnino Rage revealed that the three-month anti-open air defecation campaign meant to improve sanitation by sensitising the locals on the importance of living in clean and healthy environments.

'' As a county government, we are stressing so much on the fact that every household should have a pit latrine to curb disease outbreaks during the rainy seasons," stated the Health CEC.

Isnino further stated that the use of bush toilets should be a thing of the past, noting that anyone found in the act would not be spared.

" I want to state that use of bush toilets should be a thing of the past. The false notion that use of latrines and toilets is a curse should also come to an end," added Mrs Isnino.

Her sentiments were also echoed by nominated MCA Fahan Barkatle Ali who said the environmental campaign had come at the right time when the short rains are just beginning.
