Deputy President William Ruto reportedly returned to State House on Monday for the first time in as many weeks amid reports that his relationship with President Uhuru Kenyatta was at it's all time lows.
Last week, reports emerged that the Ruto and Uhuru had not directly spoken to each other for three weeks and that they were relying on phone calls and texts from proxies, a claim which is yet to be confirmed from either side.
"There is no communication at all from the two leaders. Seems there is a lot of mistrust between them. They haven't been talking lately," a source confirmed. https://www.standardmedia.co.ke/article/2001309161/inside-uhuru-ruto-cold-war.
Last week, Ruto was conspicuously missing from the launching of Sh1 billion Mama Ngina Drive Regeneration, even after his spokesperson David Mugonyi confirming bthsr he was to attend the function which was also graced by ODM leader Raila Odinga.
"The DP will travel to Mombasa on Sunday. He will be joining itger leaders in the function," Mugonyi had told reporters, even though Ruto changed his mind later on under unclear circumstances.
On Saturday, Ruto shared podium with Raila Odinga in Kisumu during the inauguration of Bishop Philip Anyolo as head of Kisumu Archdiocese and would later on meet Uhuru in Nairobi at a wedding in Ngong' Race Course.
Details of their Monday's meeting at State House remains scanty but the DP is said to have arrived at 11am for the closed-door meeting. It was their first one on one meeting in as many months since last year's surprise handshake between Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga.
Apparently, the meeting comes amid wrangles in Jubilee which were precipitated by immediate former Jubilee Vice Chair David Murathe, who has since resigned from his position.
Despite Murathe's direct attacks on DP Ruto, the president has remained silent on the matter, despite the fact that Mr Murathe is his close ally. The former Gatanga MP Insisted that he would do all it takes to stop Ruto from assuming presidency.
But his remarks backfired on a section of Jubilee leadership, with Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri openly accusing the president of plotting to betray Ruto.
