Leader of Majority in the National Assembly Aden Duale has said that he intends to re-introduce the two-thirds gender bill in parliament.
Speaking in Kisumu when he graced Mothers for Peace event, he said that he will consider the bill. He appealed to women leaders not to be divided as they fight for more opportunities in the government.
Duale, who also doubles up as Garissa Township MP, said that he is ready to ensure more women get elective positions.
The lawmaker also said that the handshake between Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta has affected women’s quest for more positions.
He faulted the existence of ‘Inua Mama’ and ‘Embrace’. The vocal lawmaker said that the two groups have caused a rift in government in the recent past.
“I will keep on trying to introduce the Bill. But, again, the women now are divided,” said Duale.
Duale said that the handshake between Raila and Uhuru, who is completing his second and final term in government, aimed at uniting Kenyans from different regions.
He also pleaded with Kenyans from different regions to support President Kenyatta as he seeks to leave behind a legacy. The remarks come at a time when Uhuru has assured Kenyans of his commitment to achieving the Big Four Agenda.
