The Nation reports that police have given contradicting information to the mysterious death, with her two friends who were in her company expected to be grilled afresh.

Laikipia Police Commander Simon Kipkeu had said that the ladies did not immediately report the incident on Tuesday night, but opted to go to the station, which was 100 meters away on Wednesday.

But an investigator privy to the incident, says that the ladies reported to the station the very night, only that police could not start rescue mission due to darkness.

“When they arrived at the bridge, one of the ladies miscalculated the steps and landed into the river. The friends did not report to police immediately,” he said.

The police said her body was recovered the following day, 200 metres from where the incident took place and was subsequently taken to Laikipia Teaching and Referral Hospital.

Meanwhile, tributes to Mr Nyakundi's wife continued to trickle in with Wiper Vice Chairman and Kitutu Masaba MP aspirant Victor Swanya leading Nyamira residents in mourning the deceased.

"I know Nyakundi as a diligent journalist. The tragedy is unbearable and I wish him all the best during this trying moment."
