At Dagoretti South constituency on Sunday, Dr Ruto accused unnamed senior government officials of allegedly using state resources to sponsor Kikuyu Council of Elders' meeting on Friday at Kabiru-ini grounds.

Hiyo pesa mnafanyia mikutano tunaweza kutumia kufanyia mambo mengine," said the DP.

("Government officials should stop misusing public resources. Sponsoring old men in the society for a meeting to address an agenda is uncalled for. I am told they lied to the old men about debts. I don't know what those debts are all about.

("I want to remind them that there are only two debts in Kenya; the National debt that we shall all service having used it for development and that of Uhuru and myself. We promised to work for you and that's what we are doing.")

During the Nyeri meeting, Council's Secretary General Peter Munga accused DP William Ruto of sabotaging President Uhuru Kenyatta. Also, he warned that Mt Kenya region does not owe him political debt.

Chairman Wachira Kiago fired the opening salvo: “We love peace, but our silence should not be taken for granted. The community will not bow to intimidation and threats. This is the message we are sending today and we will be taking around the country.”

According to the Nation, the over 2,000 elders were sponsored by a powerful Principal Secretary, a wealthy Mt Kenya senator and people from the office of the President.
