Belgium have climbed to the top of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking, alongside 2018 FIFA World Cup winners France, which means that the top spot is currently being shared for the first time in the table’s 25-year history.
France won the World Cup in June, and have continued with their perfect record in latest FIFA matches. Belgium, on the other hand, has also been in good form, which they have carried on from the World Cup in Russia.
Harambee Stars’ win against Ghana and Malawi in the latest international matches has seen the team rise to leap five places up in the latest FIFA rankings.
Stars have moved from position 112 to 107, marking the biggest leap in Africa in the latest rankings.
The team gained 22 points after their win in the two matches, the first being AFCON qualifiers match against the Black Stars of Ghana.
Tunisia is the top team in Africa, dislodging Congo DR from the first spot. Uganda has dropped one place down to position 83, while Tanzania’s Taifa Stars did not move a place (140) as they sit four places behind Rwanda on 137.
Harambee Stars will have another chance to improve their position when they play Ethiopia in a double-header in October.
The team’s hope of qualifying for the AFCON 2019 was renewed early this month after the team downed Ghana at the Moi Sports Centre Kasarani.
