Mbai now wants the government to keep off the matter.

Speaking on Wednesday night on Radio Citizen's 'Jungu Kuu La Siasa' show, the lawmaker questioned the state's involvement in the issue, terming it a simple disagreement between two parties who should be left alone to settle their differences.

He said that the matter should only be taken over by the state once the buyer cries foul that he was sold fake gold, which is yet to happen.

The MP noted that the trade might have been about fake gold in its entirety and insisted that the deal pitting local dealers and the Dubai royal family should be left alone until the buyers file a complaint about the quality of gold delivered.

"Serikali iwachane na watu wapige biashara zao. Kama mnunuzi hajalalamika, serikali inaingilia kivipi? Huenda hawa walikuwa wamekubaliana kuuziana dhahabu hiyo inayoitwa bandia (The state should let people do their transactions and stop interfering until the buyer complains. Maybe the deal was about fake gold)," Mbai said.

"Kuna aina nyingi za dhahabu, mimi mwenyewe nauza dhahabu nyeusi ambayo sio shiny (there are many types of gold, I personally deal in black gold which lacks the shine)," he added.

The Sh400 million deal which was allegedly masterminded by controversial businessman Maheer Jhanda has since landed 16 suspects in court, led by another controversial businessman Jared Otieno.
