Traders at Jua Kali center in Nyamira County are counting huge losses after fire reduced 17 business stalls to ashes.
The traders claimed that they lost all their property in the inferno.
"The fire broke at 2 am on Wednesday morning while most of us were sleeping. All our property was burnt beyond recognition," said Patrick Rioba.
Evans Ochoki protested that Nyamira County fire fighters took long to arrive at the scene to put off fire.
"We raised alarm but, the county fire fighters took too long to respond. Nothing was salvaged since the fire spread quickly," said frustrated Ochoki.
The traders have now appealed to Nyamira county government to help them construct the business stalls afresh.
"Governor Nyagarama's government should intervene and help us start businesses afresh because we have been paying taxes," noted Justine Ooga.
However, area OCPD Lilis Wachira said probe has commenced to establish the course of fire.
"We have launched probe to know what exactly caused the fire. Affected traders should be patient," he said.
Mr Wachira challenged traders not to connect electricity illegally.
