Garissa Governor Ali Korane has joined politicians calling for an end to the ongoing 2022 sucession debate.
Korane says that the raging debate could divide the country if politicians involved are not careful.
Speaking to journalists after inspecting development projects in Balambala constituency in Garissa on Sunday, Korane said that political anxiety is already building up in some parts of the country as a result of the succession debate.
"We must be careful as such premature debates could divide the country into tribal lines," he said.
Korane asked politicians to wait for 2022 instead of engaging Kenyans in pre-mature political debates.
He said that while it is not bad to debate politics, the timing for the current debate is not right.
The Jubilee governor urged politicians to stop debating and focus on serving their electorate.
Korane's concern comes as the 2022 succession debate rages on.
On Sunday, Jubilee Party Vice chairman David Murathe resigned.
Murathe is against Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid.
The former Jubilee Vice chair wants DP Ruto to retire alongside president Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.
He has even vowed to block DP Ruto's presidential bid in the Supreme Court.
