Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu popularly known as Baba Yao on Wednesday denied claims by his Nairobi counterpart Mike Sonko that they used to smoke bhang in a toilet at parliament buildings.
Waititu was speaking during an interview on Citizen TV's JKL show exactly one week after Sonko appeared on the same show and made the allegations which elicited mixed reactions among Kenyans.
"When we were MPs we used to smoke bhang with Waititu in some toilet there. He used to hide bhang in his socks. Mimi niliwacha lakini yeye anavuta bangi na ni gavana (I quit smoking but Waititu has not stopped despite being a governor)," said Sonko.
Responding to Sonko’s allegations, Waititu noted that he has never consumed any type of drug.
"I have never consumed any type of drug. People know that I’m strongly opposed to the use of drugs and the consumption of illicit brew,” said Waititu.
The two governors have been at loggerheads after Sonko announced a plan to phase out 14 seater matatus in the city, a move which Waititu strongly opposes.
Waititu's declaration that he doesn't smoke bhang has elicited mixed reactions among Kenyans, with a section of social media users arguing that the county boss was not being honest.
Here are some of the reactions from Twitter.
