Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior has revealed the person who helped Wiper Democratic Movement of Kenya (WDM-K) register impressive victory in the Embakasi South by-election.
In a tweet on Saturday, Kilonzo disclosed that Mavoko Member of Parliament Patrick Makau was the schemer who expertly led Wiper campaigns to ensure Julius Mawathe emerged the winner.
The Wiper candidate garnered 21,628 votes to defeat former area MP Irshad Sumra of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) who registered 7,988 votes.
Referring to him as "master strategist", the Senator thanked the MP, who was also the campaign team chairman, and noted he was a precious asset to the Kalonzo Musyoka-led outfit.
"You a master strategist! Kudos to you for planning and organizing the team. Wiper is indebted to you," Kilonzo posted.
On his part, Makau expressed happiness that Mawathe managed to return to the National Assembly and thanked all those who played part in the successful political contest.
"God is everything. I'm grateful to see my brother and colleague Hon. Mawathe retain his seat. Allow me to thank the people of Embakasi South, my party Wiper, Members of Parliament and MCAs who supported us through out the campaigns. As the chairman, accept my heart-felt appreciation," he said.
Makau is professional banker who resigned to join active politics.
He served as a councillor and Mayor in Mavoko before he was elected as area MP in 2013.
A close ally of Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Makau easily defended his seat in 2017.
He is said to be interested in taking over the Machakos gubernatorial seat currently held by Alfred Mutua who is serving his second and final term.
