John Harun Mwau is among the country’s veteran and wealthiest politicians.
The former Kilome MP joined politics in the 1990’s.
His political life has however been full of controversies.
Mwau was once named among the drug barons by the United States Government.
The former MP, however, rubbished the claims stating that his multi-billion wealth is clean.
In 2017, Mwau petitioned President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election in the October 26 repeat poll.
Here are top positions Mwau once held in his political career:
1. Former MP
Mwau served as Kilome Member of Parliament.
He lost bid for the Makueni's senatorial seat in 2013.
2. Chairman PICK
Mwau was the founder and chairman of the Party of Independent Candidates of Kenya (PICK).
3. Director KACC
He was the first director of the defunct Kenya Anti-Corruption Authority (now EACC).
4. Assistant Minister
In the coalition government in 2008, Mwau was appointed as Assistant Minister Transport and later transferred to Trade Ministry.
5. Presidential candidate
He was a presidential candidate in the 1992's general election, lost to the retired president Daniel Arap Moi.
Mwau is described as a silent but tactical politician.
Sources say he could return to active politics.
Mwau is likely to shape the direction Ukambani politics will take in the 2022 polls.
