Deputy President William Ruto seems to have accepted opposition leader Raila Odinga's invitation to war and even gladly availed himself at the battlefield.

Consequently, he has allowed himself to be drawn into Raila's sentiments in the corruption debate, and is currently engaged in a terrible war of words with the former Prime Minister.

The DP seems to have forgotten that he is holding a top state office and should be busy addressing the plight of Kenyans and not engaging other leaders in duels and fights.

He should know that Raila, though hiding behind the anti-graft war debate, is actually out to derail him and possibly use his failure to fight him in the 2022 presidential elections.

Therefore, the more they fight, the lesser the time and concentration he will allocate in serving Kenyans, giving Raila more reasons to use while campaigning against him in 2022.

The DP should as well not forget the age difference between the two of them and that though this is politics, going too deep on Raila might have negative effects in the future.

Should the fight intensify and takes a name calling turn, him calling Raila names might depict him as disrespectful and proud which might push away Kenyans.

At the same time, his readiness to always respond to Raila's attacks could be proof that there is some truth in the Orange party leader's claims.

Otherwise, if what he is saying is a lie, there wouldn't be any new for the DP to respond, meaning that he is admitting that there is a problem and is trying to defend the state.

He must realize that fighting Raila makes him more popular and more dangerous for his (Ruto) bid come 2022, should Raila vie.

Its time the DP retreated and left the scene if he indeed intends to win the presidential seat.
