The Wafula Chebukati-led commission addressed a number of issues ahead of the exercise as candidates seek support to emerge victorious in one of the most awaited contests.

Among the key issues that were addressing during the meeting is management of the tallying centers and selection of agents to oversee the exercise.

The team emphasized the need for a free and fair exercise while warning the candidates against engaging in election malpractices deemed to subvert the will of the tax payers.

IEBC Returning Officer Vincent Sytabua said that they encouraged the members to maintain peace during the whole process.

"We also discussed the issues of tallying centre management, especially who will be allowed in. We encouraged them to maintain peace," he said as quoted by Standard.

The seat became vacant following the nullification of ODM Chris Karan’s win by the Supreme Court. The court cited massive illegalities and irregularities in the August 2017 poll.

The IEBC has cleared Karan of ODM, David Ochieng (Movement for Growth and Democracy), Brian Omondi (Thirdway Alliance) and Daniel Juma (Grand Dream Development) to lock horns during the contest.

The Raila Odinga-led candidate is considered the best-placed to bag the seat considering his influence in the region.
