A report handed to Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i by police officers informed his decision to snub a possible podium meeting with Raila Odinga.
Initially, Matiang'i had reportedly planned to fly to Bobasi for a fund drive before coming to Nyansiongo for the burial of Ndemo Nyagarama, eldest son to Governor John Nyagarama.
Instead, Matiang'i, who could have faced hostility from ODM supporters, decided to change his plans and make a brief stopover at Nyansiongo before Raila landed.
"We had reports that some ODM supporters had planned to heckle him and we immediately shared the intelligence.
"To avert the situation, he immediately interchanged his plans and passed by the funeral first. That is how he skipped a possible backlash from Raila supporters," said an officer, who spoke in confidence.
With very few people at the venue, Matiang'i passed by and briefly met James Orengo, who was reportedly doing intelligence on behalf of Raila.
ODM supporters have always clashed with Matiang'i since the controversial election last year after accusing him of excessive use of force by the police.
