Popular Kisumu HIV/AIDS activist Phenny Awiti has come out on social media to refute claims that she is dead.
Reports of Ms Awiti’s alleged death was shared on social media over the weekend, but she has now confirmed that she is indeed alive and kicking.
“Goodness gracious! I woke up to Rest In Peace on my timeline and a million texts and voice messages. I just logged in. Attending a wedding. I am fine. I have no idea who killed me on Facebook,” she posted on her Facebook page on Saturday.
A while later, she posted another message saying, “I am fine! For those who live in Utawala, you know there was blackout the whole day yesterday. I was attending a wedding very early today by 7am I was up. I was saving my power today, but still logged in very early and liked a few of your posts and headed for church. I am so disheartened, this is so unfortunate, but again, it is well!”
Ms Awiti, the mother of two is widely known for coming out in the open to disclose her HIV positive status.
Most of her posts on social media centre on embracing positive living for those infected, responsible living for those not affected and preventing stigma.
