The county leadership on Monday announced that it will not engage the operators in the issue further, days after they staged demonstrations at the county headquarters in protest.

Through County Executive Committee Member for Finance Nerry Achar, the county said that operators are already abiding by the new tax and the opposition gradually reducing.

"Its picking up well and the noise is subsiding," the CEC was quoted by the Capital News.

He said that the county will, however, engage the riders on going forward is the new National Treasury proposal to have the riders have insurance cover for their passengers.

"There is no more discussion on paying rates by the riders. What we are ready to agree in is to see how the county can help the riders improve on their services," he added.

He added that the county is working on a census for all bodaboda riders, which he said will begin soon, as the county seeks to establish better policies and programs for them.

He added that the long standing differences and clashes between the county and the riders is to blame on the many umbrella bodies representing the operators.
