Meja said road users must at all times comply with the traffic rules in order to bring down the statistics of accidents on Kenyan roads.

Speaking at Sachangwan in Nakuru County during the commemoration of the World Day for the road accidents victims on Sunday, Meja said accidents along the stretch have drastically dropped this year due to strict enforcement of traffic rules.

He called on motorists to observe simple traffic rules such as lanes to avert accidents which are brought about by poor ways of overtaking.

“There is nothing like myths on our roads, what we need to do is to observe the simple road safety regulations. When you see a continuous yellow line on the lanes don’t try to overtake. It is as simple as that,” Meja said.

On his part, Nakuru county commissioner Joshua Nkanatha warned government officers on complacency saying that stiff penalties would be meted out on them if any case of negligence is reported against them.

Deputy Governor Dr. Erick Korir lauded the expansion of the additional lane to create a dual carriage for the section stating that it would ease the movement along the climbing lane while allowing traffic sufficient space.

However, some locals voiced their concerns that less attention has been put on the victims of accidents or immediate family members to share their experiences and the best approach to remedy such a situation.
