The PS State Department of Wildlife and Conservancy Dr Susan Koech has stated that the situation at the Lake Nakuru National Park is in control.
She confirmed that they have collected four more buffalo caucuses that have been taken for a lab test to determine whether the cause of their death was anthrax.
Speaking on Monday at Lake Nakuru National Park, the PS said that they will increase aerial recce personnel as from Tuesday to ensure that they limit spreading of the disease.
“We will have a helicopter to help us in patrols so as to avoid further spread of anthrax,” said the PS.
She added that drought is among the major cause of anthrax that is killing animals in the park.
She further noted that by Monday afternoon, they had managed to vaccinate 14 out of15 white rhinos in the park keeping in mind that they are the most endangered species.
In addition, she said that they have only managed to vaccinate 4 out of 67 black rhinos.
“We have been able to vaccinate 14 out of 15 white rhinos and also 4 out of 67 black rhinos” she said.
The PS assured members of the public and tourists that the situation was now under control and that there was nothing to raise alarm.
