While speaking when he visited Migori County on Friday on a 'development tour', the DP said that it is high time that all elected leaders should focus their energies serving the electorate instead of engaging in endless political campaigns.

"The time for politics ended last year. It is time for development and service delivery to the people of Kenya. This should be the agenda of every politician. Let those traversing the country talking about 2022 campaigns to focus on serving the people," said the DP as quoted by Nation.

Ruto's sentiment comes at a time new political realignments are starting to take shape as bigwigs ready themselves for the 2022 contest even as they bid to outmanoeuvre each other.

At the same time, Ruto has in the past found himself on the receiving end with his critics accusing him of prematurely engaging in 2022 politics in the name of development.

As to whether Ruto's warning will make politicians back down in their early political campaigns remains to be seen.
