Police in Ahero, Kisumu county, are detaining a 46-year old woman accused of burning her husband with hot cooking oil following a domestic row.
The woman is alleged to have committed the offense Tuesday night, after boiling the oil and pouring it on her sleeping husband after he attempted to discipline their son.
Speaking from the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital where he is recuperating, the victim, Francis Ochieng’, noted that it all started after he directed the son to shave his shaggy hair.
“After I told the boy not to return home before shaving, I went on with my other domestic chores till evening when I saw the boy in the kitchen chatting with his mother,” he told the Standard.
He claimed that his wife was angered by his ultimatum, and condition that the boy would only live under his roof after getting rid of his ‘rasta’ hair.
And upon returning from his workplace in Korowe market, he decided to take a rest, when he suddenly felt the hot liquid poured all over his back and head.
He, however, noted that he has never had any disagreements with his wife of 28 years and with whom he has 6 children.
“I had no strength to do anything, so I was brought to the hospital. I have never had any violent disagreement with my wife so I do not understand how such a simple thing could lead to this,” he is further quoted.
The suspect is set to appear in court on Friday.
