Deputy President William Ruto, it emerged this past week, is laying an elaborate plan that will involve rolling out well-oiled campaign activities countrywide.
The DP, who is keen on succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022, it was also revealed, has plans to gag opposition chief Raila Odinga's campaign activities, a development he is sure will put him on an advantage over his competitors ahead of 2022.
Ruto's plan entails selecting key figures in every region to help coordinate his campaign activities which will be run from a campaign secretariat based in Nairobi.
The DP, however, is not working alone. According to sources, leaders from Rift Valley are at the forefront of the whole investment and the leaders have vowed to ensure the DP ascends to the presidency in 2022.
Some of the people running the DP's activities which also involve "neutralizing" opposition leader Raila Odinga's influence ahead of the 2022 polls include Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen as well as MPs Caleb Kositany (Soy), his Baringo South counterpart Daniel Rono and Kapseret's Oscar Sudi.
On Thursday, Murkomen warned Raila to prepare for cut-throat campaigns ahead of 2022.
"We have not yet begun Ruto's proper campaigns," Murkomen said, adding; "but we are prepared for him (Raila)."
On Tuesday, Siaya Senator James Orengo hinted that Raila will be at the ballot in 2022 and his main challenger during the election may be Ruto.
