Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu and his Nairobi counterpart Mike Sonko were on Wednesday spotted exchanging pleasantries at the 40th anniversary of Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, the founding father of the nation.
The event which was held at the Kenyatta Mausoleum saw the governors appear together in public for the first time after Sonko hit out at Waititu, warning him against interfering in the Nairobi’s affairs.
Last week, Sonko fired back at Waititu following his move to oppose the ongoing demolition of buildings on riparian land in Nairobi.
Waititu argued that the demolitions were causing massive losses for investors, and instead proposed that the owners of the buildings should be asked to cater for the costs of diverting the rivers.
The flamboyant governor insinuated that Waititu did not know the meaning of the word riparian, and even went ahead to claim that the Kiambu county boss used to copy him during exams in campus.
“My good friend and colleague should concentrate on his county. He should know we don’t mix friendship with work. Even Weston; My Buru buru Casurina cocobeach plot; Taj mall and many other buildings shall not be spared if found to be on riparian or public land. Or maybe he does not know what is the definition of a Riparian land and that’s why even in campus he was copying me during CATS. In fact, he needs to tell us the status of a petrol station constructed on a grabbed public access at the junction of Mihango and Njiru,” said Sonko in a Facebook post.
Sonko later leaked a phone conversation of Waititu pleading for the release of his wife Susan Wangare, who was on Wednesday, last week arrested in Nairobi.
Wangare was arrested alongside 14 other people over claims of illegal construction of a building in the city’s CBD.
