The majority of the locals have said the rain which results in heavy floods is constantly sweeping away their properties as well as plantations.

During an exclusive interview with Hivisasa, the West Nyakach Ward Representative George Oluoch called upon Kisumu county government together with the Kenya Red Cross to offer his people possible help before more damage occurs.

“Today as West Nyakach people we are sad. We have lost all we planted and some of us have moved to higher grounds. I also appeal to the county government of Kisumu and Red Cross to provide us with blankets and other material support,” said George Oluoch.

The MCA said they have been affected as they reside next to river Miriu which has broken its banks causing harm to the West Nyakach Ward people.

He noted that a number of his electorates from Gul area have moved to the higher grounds, asking those left behind to do so as to avoid more damages.

The current heavy rainfall has wreaked havoc in several areas in Kisumu including Nyando Sub County where residents have been forced to leave their homes for higher grounds, at least to seek refuge.
