This year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) top candidate scored 453 marks.
Two pupils scored the top mark.
The results were announced on Monday, November 19 at the Star of The Sea Mombasa County.
The exam was released by Education CS Amina Mohammed.
"I also note that female pupils performed better in Kiswahili and English. Male candidates performed better in Mathematics, Science and Social Studies," Amina said.
More than one million pupils sat the exam.
Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) Board Chairman Prof George Magoha said parents have failed in their role.
Speaking during the release of the exam, Magoha said parents these days have not time for their children.
“The exams this year were credible and I know we can do better. Parents have failed us by having children whom they have no time for,” Magoha said.
