Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Industrialization, Trade and Co-operatives Peter Munya arrived in Kisumu County on Tuesday morning to inspect the ongoing construction of the Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) plant within Kisumu City.

The  Shs 15 billion plant in Obunga set to be launched later this year will absorb thousands of employees both directly and indirectly according to reports from the team behind the mantle.

The CS also paid a courtesy call to the Kisumu County Government where he was received by Kisumu Deputy Governor (DG) Mathews Ochieng’ Owili as detailed by a press statement from Kisumu County Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o press unit.

“The Cabinet Secretary is in the county to inspect the current state of the almost complete Kisumu breweries plant in readiness to its official opening later this year. The plant is set to create limitless opportunities to the thousands of jobless youth in this region,” added the statement.

Construction of the plant was launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta in the company his Deputy William Ruto in July 2017 during the campaign period. 

The plant is among other several projects that have been initiated by the president himself in the county.

Last month, he launched the construction of Ahero interchange and Universal Health Care Programme in the presence of the former premier Raila Odinga and the deputy president.

He later was invited by Raila to catch a glimpse of the state of Lake Victoria this month, moments after the later had launched an exercise to clear water hyacinth from Lake Victoria.
