Highly placed sources intimate that detectives in Kisii managed to send Mr. Hillary Obutu, a brother-in-law to Governor John Nyagarama to prison pending investigations over a series of fraudulent activities undertaken by him.
Mr. Obutu, a brother to First Lady Naomi Nyagarama, was arrested on Monday after complaints over his deceit in obtaining millions of money from unsuspecting members of the public on pretext that he will help them secure employment.
With the case being one of the high profile in the recent times, police investigating the matter have closely guarded the mystery behind it, even as reports emerged that the First Family is disinterested in bailing him out.
"He was locked at Kisii Police Station before being arraigned in court the following day. Detectives managed to send him to prison pending investigations over the series of fraud," a police source said.
For the better part of last week, family members led by Kiage Obutu, insisted that they did not know his whereabouts even as the phone remained off air.
A source within the First Family says Mrs. Nyagarama is disinterested in the matter and has since let the law take its course.
"She's unhappy that he has been fraudulently using her name. Nobody is interested to bail him out," he said.
Detectives managed to get a court order to investigate his transactions both on known bank accounts and M-PESA, which could give them a clue over the voluminous allegations.
DICO Nyamira Millicent Ochuka seemed to distance herself from the arrest even as it emerged that detectives were deployed from Regional offices in Kisii.
Mr. Obutu is a county employee, working as a driver of the recently acquired fire engine, and is said to have had a network with CPSB.
However, it could not be established how long he will stay in Kisii prison before facing the court to clear allegations he's facing from members of the public.
