Kisii Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers are now requesting the county government of Kisii county to employ them on permanent terms and not on contract.

Speaking to journalists on Thursday in Kisii town, the ECDE teachers union through their chairperson Bernard Moseti said that about three years ago, there were plans to employ the teachers on permanent terms but nothing has been done yet.

“I support the Kisii County Governor for realising the role played by the ECDE teachers by giving them a contract. The first contract was about three years and we were waiting to be absorbed on permanent terms. However, the terms were changed and the contract was renewed for another three years. It is not a happy issue for the teachers,” said Moseti.

"I recall about three years ago when the council of governors said that they were going to confirm these teachers on permanent terms but up to date, they have done nothing,” Moseti added.

The teachers also gave an example of other counties such as Narok and Turkana where the teachers were absorbed on permanent terms.

They, therefore, requested Kisii Governor James Ongwae to follow the example of other counties and absorb them on a permanent basis.
