Two businessmen were on Thursday arrested and arraigned at a Siaya court, where they were charged for offering veterinary services to the locals without a license.
The two, identified as James Oduor and Patrick Omondi were slapped with a fine of Sh50,000 and Sh30,000 respectively by Siaya Principal Magistrate James Ong’ondo after the duo pleaded guilty to the charges.
Oduor is accused of possessing chemical deemed as poisonous and exhibiting them at Ng’iya open-air market along the border of Alego Usonga and Gem sub-counties.
Secondly, the accused was charged for failing to keep the poison in the safe place, therefore endangering the lives of market users.
Lastly, he was charged for providing veterinary services illegally, lacking proper documents from the Kenya Veterinary Board.
His counterpart Omondi was also charged for practicing veterinary services in the same market without right documents obtained from Kenya Veterinary Board.
In their defense, they both sought leniency saying that they did not know it was wrong to provide such services without licenses.
