Makueni governor Kivutha Kibwana has responded to an online campaign from a section of Kenyans calling for his candidature in the 2022 presidential polls.
In the campaign, the supporters have vowed to ensure Kibwana is on the ballot. However, Kibwana has declined the offer stating that he is not ready to talk about the 2022 elections.
Speaking to a local daily, Kibwana said that at the moment, his focus is on serving the Makueni electorate.
“In my last term, I have pledged to work on the county agenda to my last day in office. That is my duty. That is our common work. Obviously, we deeply appreciate the goodwill extended to us from the rest of our countrymen and women,” he said in a statement.
There was a debate online after a photo emerged suggesting that Kibwana was retiring from politics.
“Public life is a life of service; it is missionary work. In Makueni we listen to one another so that we can build consensus on how we want to develop.
"I enjoy sitting, talking and walking with our people. When I leave public life, I will dearly miss this aspect of my public political life,” reads the caption on the photo.
The photo triggered the campaign on 2022 politics. Kibwana is among governors who are highly rated by Kenyans in terms of development.
