Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua is among the top state and public officers who have been honored with the presidential award this Jamhuri Day.
Mutua has been awarded the Elder of the Order of the Golden Heart (EGH).
Other governors who have received the same awards include Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga), Joyce Laboso (Bomet), Josphat Nanok (Turkana), Hassan Joho (Mombasa), and Suba MP John Mbadi.
In a gazette notice dated 12/12/2018 and signed by President Uhuru Kenyatta, Mutua and other state and public officers have been honored for their distinguished and outstanding services rendered to the nation in their various capacities and responsibilities.
Governor Mutua is serving his second term in office.
The Maendeleo Chap Chap party leader has declared an interest to succeed President Kenyatta in 2022.
Mutua argues that he has what it takes to be the next president.
A section of Kamba politicians is, however, piling pressure on Mutua to shelve his 2022 bid in support of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
The Machakos governor has ruled out stepping down for Kalonzo or anyone else in 2022.
