Gaudencia Aoko, one of the founders of the church which draws most of the membership from Luo Nyanza died at the Nightingale Hospital in Kisumu on December 23, 2018.

According to her brother Henry Obala, the latter who had been quite well days before falling sick died barely two weeks after being admitted to the hospital.

“We are surprised, she had been strong and going on with her businesses. The sickness did not take even two weeks before she succumbed,” he told the Nation.

Aoko who died at 75 took the religious turn after divorcing her husband Simeo Owiti at 20 years of age.

This was after both her children died on the same day in a bizarre incident in 1962.

She was a native of Awasi, Kisumu County, and the daughter of Dominicus Obala and Lydia Oketch.

Among her well-known powers was to cast out demons from the possessed, and also did other jobs like crushing rocks for a living.

Her death was confirmed by Peter Mutuku, a priest at Manyatta Parish in Kisumu City.

Her body is being preserved at the hospital's morgue pending burial on January 19.
