As things stand now, opposition leader and Luo Nyanza defacto kingpin Raila Odinga appear like the leading in the push for the changes.

However, he is likely to face opposition from a good number of people with a different opinion, some from his own backyard.

Very likely to join the anti-changes bandwagon is Migori Governor Okoth Obado who despite being in the office on Raila's Orange party ticket, has not been in good terms with him.

Late last year, only weeks after his release from remand over allegations of the murder of slain beauty Sharon Otieno, Obado was repeatedly seen in the company of Deputy President William Ruto who a nemesis of the opposition leader.

Also in a bid to make himself more relevant at a time when he seems to be losing it and on his second and last term, he is very likely to deliberately oppose it to gain some relevance.

And in the instance that one of the changes proposed includes the merger of counties or county wards, then Raila will face opposition in the name of Governors, Senators and Members of County Assembly (MCAs).

As such as they love and would like to support him, their interests will have to come first and the referendum and Raila second and third respectively.

Also, there are ODM rebels and former elected leaders opposed to Raila who have always faulted everything to do with Raila.

This is because some consider him and his influence in the region the cause for their short political careers.

These include the likes of former Rangwe lawmaker Shem Ochuodho and his Kisumu Central counterpart Ken Obura who are very likely to go all out to oppose it.

Their main aim will be to be perhaps to frustrate Raila.
