Nakuru County Government should be ashamed of reports that a section of its officials arrested street kids in the town and dumped them in a forest in Baringo on Thursday last week.

Governor Lee Kinyanjui should come out and apologize for treating the children as lesser human beings.

Street children are human beings like any other person living in Nakuru town despite the fact that they are of low socio-economic class.

The status of those children is due to poverty and lack of empowerment from our leaders, government and other institutions.

There is a need for protecting every human being's rights and fundamental freedoms according to the Kenyans Constitution.

Handcuffing and forcing the street children into lorries and taking them all the way to Bariongo in Chemusus forest was uncalled for.

The action suggests that the county government treat these children as a burden.

The county government through its Ministry of Youth, Culture, Gender, Sports and Social Services should look for ways on how to empower these young children in order to better their lives instead of condemning them to worse lives.

Some of these street children may be talents to be nurtured.

The steet children narrated how they were treated inhumanly and those involved should face the law.

I call upon the Director of Criminal Investigations and Cabinet Secretary for Interior to act on the matter.
