Pumwani hospital is the largest maternity facility in East and Central Africa.
It was established in 1926 by a charitable organisation called Lady Grigg Welfare League.
It was renamed Lady Grigg maternity in 1928.
In 1944 it was named Pumwani maternity hospital and acquired by the Nairobi Municipality.
