A number of legislators allied to Deputy President William Ruto have demanded answers regarding the Monday morning crash of a chopper said to belong to the DP.
Led by Pokot South lawmaker David Pkosing, the lawmakers have suspected possible foul play in the crash which killed DP Ruto's pilot Mario Magonga and four American citizens.
Similar comments were aired by fellow MPs Nelson Koech (Belgut), Joyce Korir (Bomet County) and Gideon Keter (nominated) in separate interviews with the Standard.
The MPs now want state agencies to look into the issue to avoid speculations of a foul play, especially at a time when the DP has been under political fire from his rivals.
“If it was indeed an accident we need to be told what caused it. It will be important for an investigation to be conducted and the results made public so as to rule out the possibility of any foul play,” Koech was quoted.
Pkosing who heads the National Assembly Transport Committee on also instructed the Air Accident Investigation Division (AAID) to launch a quick probe into the matter.
“The department which is under the Ministry of Transport is under the radar of my committee. They have been very slow and ineffective in the past. We will not allow them to go easy if they do not give us answers on what caused the Turkana crash,” he said.
