Like any other business, sex workers in Eldoret are also facing a similar situation of business competition and the following reasons lead some of them going home without their daily bread.
The first and obvious reason is their increasing numbers. Their number is increasing at a high rate as compared to the number of their clients and this is the main reason as revealed by one of the sex workers who operate in Eldoret town.
"This is a business like any other and we face stiff competition due to an increasing number of our colleagues but our clients do not increase at the same rate as ours, this has made us present ourselves in the most awesome way so as to win the few clients."
The second reason for their recently increased competition is due to a few 'corners' to operate. This, in turn, makes them converge in large numbers in one place with the client picking the best.
"Few corners of operation has been a great challenge to us also because we have to converge in large numbers in one place where only the best make their daily bread unlike those of us who are not as such beautiful usually go home empty-handed," revealed another sex worker.
Presence of campus ladies due to the fact that Eldoret town hosts a number of universities and colleges have made the clients opt for campus ladies rather than sex workers.
"We no longer go for sex workers because it is now easy to get services from campus ladies around the town," revealed a client who also sought anonymity.
