Depression can be deadly if not controlled within an appropriate time. This makes it your responsibility as a parent to watch out if your child is depressed. Unfortunately, most parents solely focus on chronic sadness and ignore physiological symptoms. Here are three symptoms of a depressed child.
1. Crying or not crying at all
In case your child starts to cry more than normal or never cries regardless of what happens around her, she is likely to be depressed. Depression can make your child to be exposed to more sad stimuli prompting them to cry a lot or generally feel nothing and stop showing any feelings towards some actions.
2. Irritability
This is a symptom associated with children. An increase in irritability is a sign of depression. The condition makes your child to focus on negative things around her. If you notice that things that never used to bother her irritate your kid, seek medication.
3. Sleep disturbance
If sleep patterns of your child change without having, a medical issue that you are aware of, depression might be the cause. You are advised to watch out for prolonged sadness that is accompanied with excess sleepiness, early awakening, restless sleep and insomnia. If such symptoms persist for several weeks, visit a psychiatrist for medication.
