A 22,000 seater ultra-modern stadium is set to be constructed in Siaya County.
Siaya County Governor Cornel Rasanga on Tuesday presided over a contract signing ceremony, which will see Siaya County headquarters own an Ultra-Modern stadium.
The facility will take 44 weeks or 10 months under The Chinese Company Jiangsu Provincial Construction Company Limited.
According to governor Rasanga, the stadium will seek to increase access for all Siaya citizens to modern sporting facilities required for quality sports talent development and exposure.
In addition, the stadium will also provide international sports arena for major national and international events which will attract revenue and create direct and indirect employment opportunities to Siaya county residents.
He also said the facility will lend itself to socio-cultural events, gatherings, and conferences.
Rasanga, who was accompanied by other guests including his deputy Dr. James Okumbe and Siaya county CEC members urged residents to fully participate in the construction process and frequently give him reports about the construction, adding that the money used is public funds that need to be properly spent.
“I encourage members of the public to fully participate in the construction process and frequently report to me the progress of the construction works because these are public funds that must be properly utilized with the vigilance of the members of the public,” he said.
The stadium is expected to have features such as the main block, external works, amphitheater, toilets, floodlights, electrical installations, mechanical installations, sales point, and sports pitch.
