Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho had a rough time as he tried to defend his gubernatorial seat. He faced several allegations including the validity of his tertiary education qualifications.

 However, the Muslim community defended him and even compared him with some international figures.

According to the group, a D- that Joho got in his Kenya Secondary School Education was a strong grade in the 1990s. They even had statistics that they claimed showed how hard it was to excel during Joho’s high school era. 

They stated that in 1989, the whole nation had 1 A grade. In 1990, they said the KCSE results produced 0 As, while in 1991 we only had 2 As.

Their representative went on to explain how a D+, D, and D- qualified one to get a tertiary certificate. They went on to explain how the other grades qualified people to join colleges and universities.

After discussing the state of academics then, they discredited excess emphasis on education when evaluating leaders. They requested Joho’s political foes to read widely about the great political leader, Sir Winston Churchill. 

Other examples of academically weak but great in business and political leadership were given including the wealthy Bill Gates and dictator Adolf Hitler.
